I surprised myself by finding where to change the imap authentication to OAuth2 in the Googlemail settings, done. Here's what I did and what happened (I haven't found a way to change the smtp, but since the password request comes from imap, this is what I concentrated on) However I still have problems with the imap issue. Somewhere along the line when I was trying to solve this I got an email saying "Google will continue to block sign-in attempts from the app that you're using because it has known security problems or is out of date. Can anyone clarify this for me please (I do mean clarify, I won' be able to understand anything too complicated). Googlemail is one of the account I have in Thunderbird, but my google username appears to be am totally confused and don't know what's what.
I put in all the passwords I could think of, and I've just changed my Google account password and put that in as well, to no avail. I had no problem receiving emails to my googlemail account until recently, when I was asked to input an imap password. gmail (I am a pensioner and it is easily done, in my case). First I must admit to being very confused by googlemail v. I'm having a (new) problem with inputting a password for my Googlemail account in Thunderbird (used in a Mac).
